The Vivente Little Library Project
Fostering a love for reading and adventure can sometimes be challenging in a world often dominated by technology and screens. However, a heartwarming initiative has recently come to life in our vibrant Vivente community, thanks to the collaborative efforts of Gold Estates Holdings and the Hammond Park Secondary College – Thrive Program. The Vivente Little Library, a symbol of community unity and literary enthusiasm, was officially launched on Monday, the 18th of September, 2023, marking the culmination of weeks of hard work and dedication.
What sets this project apart is that it was designed and built by the Hammond Park Secondary College – Thrive Program students as part of their journey toward earning the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award – Australia. This project marks a historic milestone as the first community Little Library completed in Western Australia towards this Award.
This initiative challenged the students to develop skills that required them to conceptualise and present their ideas to community stakeholders. The iconic Toy Story film sparked the students’ creativity, and the resulting Little Library is a tribute to the spirit of adventure and the magic of storytelling. Although “little” in name, the project’s impact is far-reaching. It not only provided students with valuable skills and experiences but also served as a celebration of the common good.
The launch day was a testament to the community’s unity and enthusiasm. Parents, teachers, students, and residents gathered to celebrate the students’ accomplishments over the past six weeks. The joyful event highlighted the power of collaboration and the shared love for reading.
The Vivente Little Library is not just a physical structure; it symbolises the community’s commitment to nurturing a culture of reading, learning, and togetherness. It stands as a testament to what can be achieved when individuals and organisations join forces for the greater good. The collaborative efforts of all involved have given the Vivente community a gift that will continue to inspire and unite its residents for years to come.
