Campaign for Cancer a huge success

After rain forced the postponement of the Campaign for Cancer 24 Hour Relay, the event went ahead on August 29th and 30th proving to be well worth the wait!

The event was hosted by the Hammond Park Junior Football Club and was the biggest event in the Club’s history.  It was great to see so many families join in on the weekend and support this worthwhile cause.

The Hammond Park Junior Football Club has built a strong family culture during its 8 year existence. Sadly in the past 18 months, three of our families have been directly affected by brain cancer, with two players losing siblings, and another player currently battling the terrible illness. In a show of support, players and their families walked continuously around Botany Park in a 24 hour relay. All money raised over the weekend is going to the families, as well as Camp Quality, who supported them.

The event attracted more than 2000 participants from both the club and the local community.

There was plenty of entertainment over the weekend including face painting, rides, bands, footy games and a kids disco party. A big bacon and egg cook up breakfast made sure all participants had the energy to get through the weekend!

One of the highlights of the event was the candlelight ceremony in which candles were lit and placed around the oval to remember those being affected by cancer. It was a beautiful sight and a very touching tribute to those who have lost someone they love.

The Hammond Park Junior Football Club would like to thank Richard Noble & Company and Gold Estates Holdings for sponsoring the event and everyone who came over the weekend and showed their support.
